Born Pretty Store – My Experience

20:53

If you're a nail artist, I'm sure you've heard of the Born Pretty Store. Born Pretty is a beauty supply store based in China that sells inexpensive nail art tools and supplies. Oftentimes, they send nail art bloggers some of their products for free to test and review in order to promote their store. And I’m no exception to the wide array of bloggers who have been sent their products in return for endorsement. It’s honestly a great experience to be able to try out nail art supplies for free. Most of the time, I really do like their products. Only once have I actually not liked one of their products (I’ll get into that later though). The bottom line is: Is the Born Pretty Store worth your time?

If you want to know more about the Born Pretty Store, keep reading! I’m going to talk all about the site, their points program, and how their products get reviewed.

First of all, let’s talk cost. The value for the product is actually really great! Most of their products range from under a dollar to just a few dollars. And they also offer FREE worldwide shipping! Yes, you heard me right. A store that ships for free AND worldwide. Can I get a hallelujah!?! I live in Canada and not a lot of online stores offer shipping to Canada, let alone free shipping with no minimum purchase. This is great if you’re looking for something cost effective and good for your wallet.

However, with such great prices and free shipping, there’s got to be a catch right? Well, the products are coming from China, so you are going to have to wait awhile for your products to arrive in the mail. I’m talking about 4-6 weeks waiting time once the product is shipped, which can take a couple days after ordering. The wait time may be a week or two longer than this if you order on or around the time of a Chinese holiday though. Namely, Chinese New Year. If you’re an impatient person, this substantial waiting time may be a bit of a turnoff for you. I start getting impatient after the first couple weeks and eagerly check my mailbox every day when I’m waiting for my orders from this company. Nevertheless, for such inexpensive nail art supplies I find that the products are worth the wait – especially because I don’t have to buy the extremely marked up versions of the products somewhere else.

One of the perks of ordering from Born Pretty Store is that you get points from every purchase that you can use to redeem for merchandise later. If you buy nail art tools and accessories often, then their reward program may really benefit you. According to their site, each $10 USD spent is equal to 20 points (so 2 points/dollar).  Each point to be spent is equal to $0.01. At that rate, you’re probably thinking, “Geez Christina. That’s nothing. How am I supposed to buy stuff if I’m making points at the rate of a snail?” Ah well, I’m glad you asked! You can actually earn points through your involvement on the site. By submitting customer reviews, images, and video tutorials, you can earn even more points to put towards your future purchases. For written reviews, the site claims that you can earn 20-100 points. Personally, I’ve never gotten more than 20 points for a written review. For images, the site claims that you can earn 15 points per image submitted. I’m checking my account archive to see what points I’ve earned, and it says that I’ve received 30 points for my images... weird, but I’m not complaining because I’ve received more than what the site claims I should have earned. Lastly, for submitted videos, the site claims that you can earn 20-100 points. I’m happy to report that I’ve received 100 points for all of the videos that I’ve submitted to the site! As you can tell, submitting reviews, pictures, and videos are a much faster way to earn more points. Also, you’re allowed to spend a maximum 10,000 points ($10) per order!

So let’s break that point system down for you:

Written Reviews
20-100 points
Submit a Picture
15 (or 30) points
Submit a Video
20-100 points

While I’m on the topic of reviews, I have one con to say about the website. They are very selective about the reviews that they allow to be posted to their website. All customers' product reviews must be reviewed by their staff before they allow it to be published to their website. This is the case for many websites, as they don’t want anything inappropriate to be posted. However, they will only allow 5-star reviews to be posted on their site. I usually give the site 5 stars because I really and truly do like their products. However, I once bought a liquid palisade from their site that I didn’t quite love. I think I gave it 3 stars in my review, and I’ve yet to see it on their site since submitting it. I understand that as a company, they don’t want any negative reviews smearing them or their products. But as a consumer, I like reading about all of the pros and cons of a product before I purchase it. Reading about the cons of the products proves to be impossible on this website, so you may have to do some digging through other customer’s blogs about the quality of an item that you wish to purchase.

All in all, I really do like Born Pretty Store’s website and products. Or at least, their nail art tools and accessories. I can’t vouch for any of their other products like makeup, jewelry or accessories. I enjoy shopping from Born Pretty when I want to buy several different nail art tools or accessories at once. Their nail vinyls, gem wheels, stamping plates, and stamping polishes are a great buy. Plus there's always a 10% off code that you can use (just check their Instagram page for a current code). I’m going to be honest though, some of their products can be found for even cheaper prices on AliExpress or Ebay. For instance, AliExpress offers super cheap water transfer stickers for under a dollar (you must change your search settings to show “Free Shipping”, “1 Piece Only” and “Price” to find these great deals). Ebay also has the cheapest dotting tools and brushes starting at a dollar (also change your search settings to “Buy Now”, “Lowest to Highest”, “Free Shipping”). So on some occasions, I have opted to buy the same items from these sites instead of Born Pretty and forego getting points for my purchases. All of these stores are great if you love to do nail art on a budget!
